Noell Grant is the Director of Beyond Your Block (BYB), bringing years of youth mentorship experience and a proven track record in transforming young lives through citizenship and character development. Her exceptional leadership has had a positive impact on countless youth. While in college, Noell spent her summer breaks as a youth camp counselor for the Montgomery County Department of Recreation, where she coached, ran programs, and mentored youth. As a requirement for a college course, she completed a three-month internship at Noyes Detention Center, mentoring and tutoring incarcerated youth. Noell also worked at an adult male maximum security prison. These experiences equipped her to provide troubled youth with insights into life as an incarcerated individual. As a decorated and now-retired police officer, Noell excelled in fostering relationships between police and youth, mending broken family dynamics through diversion programs, and creating happier, more productive lives. She spent eight of her 21-year law enforcement career with the Police Activities League (PAL), where she created youth programs, mentored, and coached youth. Noell was also a DARE instructor, teaching strategies to resist peer pressure, enhance self-esteem, and understand the effects of drug, tobacco, and alcohol use. Additionally, she served as a Police Explorer instructor, teaching life skills, career readiness, structure, and discipline to aspiring police officers aged 13-21.
Noell has extensive experience transforming relationships between people of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, building bridges of understanding, cooperation, and collaboration. In November 2019, she was presented with the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce Inspirational Police Hero Award for her exceptional community work. Noell has dedicated three-quarters of her life to empowering youth. Currently, Noell runs programming at various schools based on the BYB principles of citizenship and character development. In her free time, she enjoys adventure, traveling, and action-based activities. She is an advocate for diverse cultural experiences and a proponent of activities that foster community engagement, possibility, and relationship cohesiveness through innovative experiences designed to encourage a sense of belonging.
